From October 26 to 30, 2026, at UMJ (19 rue des Frigos, 75014 Paris), this training will allow you to acquire the fundamentals of Soundpainting, a universal gestural language dedicated to real-time composition for music (instruments and voice). Based on Walter Thompson’s Workbook 1, it is led by Claude Whipple, Walter Thompson (creator of Soundpainting), and François Jeanneau.

Target audience: Musicians, dancers, actors, educators, therapists or anyone interested in collective creation and improvisation.

Objectives:

  • Master the 45 fundamental signs and their syntax.
  • Learn to interpret and lead sessions as a Performer or Soundpainter.
  • Explain and teach the basics of the language to a group.

Level 1 certification awarded upon completion of training after practical and theoretical assessment.

Fees

  • €1,240 (professional rate, eligible for support by AFDAS for performing arts professionals).

Please note that Afdas funding applications must be submitted no later than 30 days before the start of the training, i.e., before September 26th.

  • €460 (solidarity rate for personal financing).
