Elevate your mastery of live composition and real-time conducting. This 30-hour professional training program, held in Paris (Montreuil) from February 15 to 19, 2027, is tailored for musicians and conductors who want to master advanced musical syntax and formal composition structures.
Led by certified instructor Claude Whipple, along with historical figure François Jeanneau and Soundpainting creator Walter Thompson, this level 2 module begins with a precise diagnostic assessment and a targeted review of basic vocabulary. Throughout the week, you will dive deep into Workbook 2 (Series B & C) to explore complex phrasing, divided ensemble conducting, foreground/background transparency, and risk management in real-time creation. You will learn how to design and structure long-form pieces (6 to 10 minutes) using formal frameworks such as AABA, Collage, Linear, or Motivic forms.
Level 2 Certification Requirements: Validation is based on continuous observation and dual final examinations. Candidates must pass a written theoretical test on syntax and terminology, and successfully execute a 10-minute practical live composition before a unanimous jury composed of Walter Thompson, François Jeanneau, and Claude Whipple. A public performance concludes the curriculum on Friday evening.
