Lay a solid foundation in the universal language of real-time composition.
From January 25 to 29, 2027, at Espace Albatros (Montreuil), Real Time Music is hosting an intensive 30-hour professional workshop designed for musicians, educators, performing artists, and anyone wishing to master the structural grammar (Who–What–How–When) of Soundpainting.
Co-facilitated by certified educator Claude Whipple, alongside legendary figure François Jeanneau and the creator of the language himself, Walter Thompson, this immersive course will guide you step-by-step through the 45 fundamental signs found in Workbook 1. Through creative laboratories based on specific constraints, you will develop your physical clarity, collective listening skills, and the pedagogical expertise required to teach this language to diverse audiences.
This high-level training program is covered under Real Time Music’s “Qualiopi” certification, making it eligible for full funding through AFDAS (for performing arts professionals) and various other professional training organizations (OPCOs).
Who is this immersive course for?
This Level 1 module (Block 1) is open to all artists and educators looking to refresh their practice—including professional musicians (instrumentalists and vocalists), dancers, actors, as well as conservatory teachers and music therapists involved in collective improvisation.
Requirements and Criteria for Level 1 Certification
Completion of Block 1 is based on continuous assessment throughout the week, culminating in two final evaluations. To earn your official certification—issued by the jury (Walter Thompson, François Jeanneau, and Claude Whipple)—you must pass a written questionnaire on the terminology and clearly conduct an 8-to-10-minute real-time composition during the public showcase on Friday evening.
Fees and Funding Options
• Professional Rate: €1,240 (Full coverage available via AFDAS or your designated OPCO)
• Solidarity Rate: €460 (Exclusively for individuals paying out-of-pocket)
